Lift Your Spirit at the New Age Fair

Writer’s note: The newspaper who prints my astrology column Shoreview sent me to cover this story, then cut it for “space”. Not wanting to waste anything, including an afternoon of research and writing, I’m sharing it with you.

Once a quarter, the Astrological Society of Connecticut gathers together vendors, astrologers, intuitive readers and body workers in a New Age Fair.

For many people just the phrase “New Age” conjures images of people who are “out there”, maybe a bit flaky, people they are not likely to know, at least not well. But the friendly people at the ASC New Age Fair will dispel this notion.

Among the picturesque 17th and 18th century houses of the historic district of Old Wethersfield is the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center, a late 19th century public school building renovated in 1985 to become the permanent home of the Wethersfield Historical Society.

Astrological Analysis: A Psych Out of Shawn Spencer

James Roday as Shawn Spencer

James Roday as Shawn Spencer

Shaw Spencer hails from a family of cops, and was fully expected to carry the torch by his father, Henry, who meticulously schooled his son from a very young age in the finer points of detective work. But while Henry made him a detective, he can’t make Shawn be a detective.

It soon becomes clear that Shawn’s extraordinary powers of observation and deduction are still no match for his overdeveloped sense of fun, as he takes a string of random jobs strictly for enjoyment and entertains himself calling in tips to the police hotline for crimes he sees on television

In the series opener, after calling in one particularly accurate tip, he had to come up with a reason why he knew so much so he wouldn’t be considered a suspect in the crime. His solution, he pretends to be psychic, which apparently is more believable than “I notice things that trained police detectives, don’t.”

Sadly the USA Network or Wikipedia does not give us Shawn’s birthday, so we are on the hunt to peg the horoscope down. Let’s take a look at Shawn’s resume, also posted at USA: Continue reading

Astrology for Today: Verbal Fireworks!

The Sun, Moon and Venus in Cancer huddle together in tension aspect to Jupiter in Capricorn. Jupiter in Capricorn calls us to pay attention in a major way to our duties and responsibilities, and here the Cancer gang just wants to have fun, by virtue of a nice trine to Uranus in Pisces that just wants to zone out and meet up from friends on the astral plane. Resistance to the call to duty is likely to result in a display of verbal fireworks as we are told what it is we should be doing, and we better get right on it! Again, no one is thinking quite clearly here, and communications are muddled if emphatic. For those that are so inclined, this is an excellent day to plot escape plans as Mars trines Pluto. The earth signs benefit especially by this energy, but Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn need to be wary of the tendency to use bazookas instead of of pop guns to make their point.

Are you experiencing any verbal fireworks today?

Relationship Question: A Yang to Her Yin

Question: Can you see anything in my chart indicating a relationship commitment? Trying to figure out whether it’s time to be all about me…or it really is time for ME to be in a relationship.

Answer: With Saturn and Mars in the sky right now in tension aspect to your natal Sun and Moon in you want to know if Mr. Super Sexy is the one. Here is a person recently come into your sights who seems to combine stability and reliability with fiery self assurance. What is not to love? But with transiting Neptune retrograde five degrees away from your Sun, you have recently come to distrust your instincts in the Man department. Are you over romanticizing this man, as your natal Mars/Neptune combo in challenge aspect to your Sun suggests that you do?Well, pinch yourself, darlin’ because this might be someone who isn’t too good to be true. He just might be the Yang to your Yin. This week and next week should bring lots of communication as Mercury trines your Sun and sextiles transiting Mars. Its an exciting time, but don’t lose your head. Pluto in the sky sits in harmonious aspect to transiting Mars and in friendly aspect (sextile) to your Sun. This relationship can be very powerful in your life, as it causes you to transform your ideas about relationships and how they should work. When you get his birth information, we can look at the prospects of a long term relationship.

Do It Again, Baby: A Lesson in Twos

In my personal life, the number two is a recurrent theme. I was born on the second day of the second month extremely close to a birth time of 11:11 a.m. My name, Beth, (no, not Elizabeth, on the BC it is Beth) is the second letter of the Hebrew alphabet. I grew up in a house that was number 11 on the street. So you just might say that I am sensiitve to themes that involve numero dos.

Mercury in it own sign Gemini, is exactly halfway in its celestial duty in this sign. The second body of the astrologer’s lexicon, Mercury rules all things that comes in two, including twins. How Mercury cam to be associated with Gemini is a little fuzzy. But the story of Castor and Pollux, twin sons of the same mother, but different fathers, is a story of filial love and comradeship. When Pollux, who was mortal, died, his immortal brother asked Zeus that he should not be separated from his brother. Zeus made them both stars and fixed them in the constellation Gemini.

Though Mercury has turned direct, the higher octave of Mercury, Uranus, is now in station at, of all things, 22 degrees of Uranus preparing on July 1 to retrograde back a few degrees in Pisces until November of this year. Monica at Astrology Mundo, pointed out that the server problems with my regular blog may be related to this station of Uranus. Rob Tillet has this to say about retrograde planets:

Retrograde periods, although often problematic for us earthlings, are not particularly uncommon. . . As a rule, retrograde planets presage a period of seemingly inevitable or fated events, which relate to their sphere of influence. They present us with a series of events over which we seem to have little or no control, relating especially to the sign in which the retrogradation occurs.

It is af if Uranus has extended the Mercury retrograde period. Not only that, we are going to have to do over the lessons related to Uranus in Pisces we learned in the previous months until November of this year.

It looks like I have to wait until at least July 1 for the server problems with Astrology Explored to be permanently resolved. Until then, I keep posting here.

What has been your lessons with Uranus in Pisces? And do you think you need to do them over again?

What’s Goin’ On With Beth?

Monica over at Astrology Mundo proposes that my server problems over at 451 Press, my blogging “home” is the result of the Uranus station at 22 degrees Pisces. Hmmm, what do you think? Well, there is lots more going on with me than just a few annoying server problems, and I decided to make a contest out of it. The person with the most accurate description of my life right now will win a copy signed by the author of April Elliot Kent’s Star Guide to Weddings. The only one who can’t enter is Jeffrey Kishner, of Seduction Central who knows a bit of what is going on. Sorry, Jeff.

To help you along here is my chart with the current transits:

Answered by Astrology: To Blog or Not to Blog

Question: I’m thinking about starting a blog that deals with world religions and how their beliefs can help us deal with emotions. Would this be a good venture or would I just be spinning my wheels?

Answer: I used the technique called horary to take a look at your question. The techniques I used come from March and McEvers’ book “The Only Way to Learn About Horary and Electional Astrology” which are not traditional horary techniques. Traditional Horary, as practiced by Medieval astrologers follows strict rules about how to read a chart. Traditional Horary astrologers use only the seven traditional planets and follow a very different system of house rulerships than modern astrology. In March and McEvers’ horary techniques, modern house rulership rules apply.

The date and time I read and understood the question was June 17, 2008 at 6:05 PM, Middletown, CT. This is the information I used to cast the chart.

In horary information is derived by looking at the rulers of the houses representing elements of the question and the aspects they make to other planets in the chart. Your question is interesting as it falls to the astrologer in deciding which house represents blogs. The third house is about communications and the ninth house is publishing, so one of those would be the logical choice. Because blogs are often very short pieces of writing, electronically delivered, I reasoned that the third house best represents blogs.

I can see where you are very enthusiastic about the idea, and normally I wouldn’t discourage such a wonderful one, but it does seem like stars do not give a go ahead at this time. There is a stress aspect between the ruler of the ascendant, Jupiter to Mars AND a stress aspect from Mars to the ruler of the house representing the blog idea, Uranus. Inconjuncts say that something would have to change significantly before an yes answer can be given.

What would would this be?

The moon in the first, representing you, is in opposition to Venus and the Sun in the seventh. There seems to be some issue regarding your partner and finances that needs to be resolved. With Jupiter in the second, it looks like you think that this blog can make you some money, but again there is a stress aspect to the ninth house representing higher spiritual values that is indicating that something needs to change.

As you know, keeping a blog can be a time consuming activity, with little reward. I read that it can take up to two years for a blog to develop into a money making entity.

I say take care of the money issues and then you can revisit the idea of starting the blog once your life is a bit more stable.
